The Woodlands Arts Council continued to encourage art in the community

hosting “Fast Draw” art events at The Woodlands Mall
11/02/2021

The Woodlands, Texas – (November 2, 2021) – Ready, set, draw! The Woodlands Arts Council (TWAC) demonstrated its commitment to promoting arts in the community for all ages when they hosted two Fast Draw competitions this year at The Woodlands Mall.

On July 24, they held a Summer Love Fast Draw, which presented a fun art event for all ages that gave two-person teams the opportunity to draw each other timed to music. This year’s song pick was the Beatles’ classic “All You Need is Love” which was played twice in succession while the artists took turns creating drawings of each other. They were asked to switch colors every time the word “love” was heard in the song.

Each of the drawings created at the Summer Love Fast Draw was photographed and compiled into a single community artwork that is now on display in the “Spotlight on the Arts Gallery” located on the second level of The Woodlands Mall near the carousel.

On October 23, another Fast Draw event was held for 7th and 8th grade students in Montgomery County to quickly draw a still life arrangement, which was provided by The Blooming Idea. Students were given drawing materials and had 50 minutes to complete a still life drawing as they work against the clock.

This free and popular event is a partnership of The Woodlands Mall and The Woodlands Arts Council that has taken place for seven years.

“The Fast Draw competition is a tradition for The Woodlands Mall and The Woodlands Arts Council, with the theme and participants varying each year,” said Jenny Carattini-Wright, Executive Director of The Woodlands Arts Council. “These events present a very fast-moving, festive and creative atmosphere! We appreciate our partnership with The Woodlands Mall to bring arts to the community.”

Ted Harris, Sr. General Manager of The Woodlands Mall, added, “The Woodlands Mall is very pleased to host arts events with The Woodlands Arts Council. The Fast Draw events are always well received at our property, and we are proud to display an exhibit of the works in our ‘Spotlight on the Arts Gallery.’ These free, family-oriented events provide a wonderful opportunity for our community to celebrate the arts.”

The Fast Draw Competition is a part of the Arts Council’s Because Art Matters program that provides year-round opportunities for artists of all ages to learn, create and be inspired by the visual, performing and literary arts.

The Woodlands Arts Council also produces The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival, a juried arts show featuring over 175 artists displaying original works in a wide variety of styles and mediums. It is one of the top festivals of its kind in the country according to rankings in Art Fair Sourcebook. This year’s Festival will be held April 9 and 10, 2022.
