Public Art

Created in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, The Art of Gratitude is a permanent public mural woven with messages of gratitude shared by members of The Woodlands community. Artist Marlo Saucedo transformed their words into trees, nature, and imagery that reflect the people, places, and experiences that make this community home.

The project was launched with a $1,776 grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, and brought fully to life through The Woodlands Arts Council’s Giving Tuesday campaign. Community donors helped fund the mural while contributing messages of gratitude that became an integral part of the artwork.

Created during the 2026 Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival, A Community in Bloom brought festival patrons of all ages together to create a permanent work of art inspired by healing, hope, and joy. Participants painted individual wooden tiles and added messages of hope and encouragement to butterfly wings, which artist Sandra Cooper brought together in a large-scale triptych.

Presented through a partnership between The Woodlands Arts Council, The Woodlands Art League, and Canopy Cancer Survivorship Center at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, the mural now welcomes patients and families at Canopy’s entrance. The project was funded by The Woodlands Arts Council.
