With support from The Woodlands Arts Council Microgrant, Moorhead Junior High expanded opportunities for students to explore electric string instruments with confidence and excitement. What once felt intimidating became accessible, as students auditioned for the electric orchestra, selected songs, and experimented with different sound effects, building creativity and musical confidence.
The grant also made a lasting impact during a recruitment event for 70 incoming sixth graders. Guided by orchestra students, visitors learned to play electric instruments by ear, filling the stage with laughter, teamwork, and a sense of accomplishment. What began as hesitation quickly turned into enthusiasm as students eagerly tried new instruments and encouraged one another.
The experience inspired more students to join the orchestra the following year, demonstrating how the grant fostered confidence, curiosity, and a growing love of music.
