Students at Powell Elementary School have previously had limited exposure to clay as an art making tool due to a limited budget for the art department. Working with clay as young artists is extremely beneficial to improving fine motor skills, increasing problem solving skills, sensory development, and fostering a vibrant sense of creativity. Students from Kindergarten to the 4th grade would benefit greatly from working with clay as an art medium but also take pride in their creations in class.
With funding from the Dr. David Gottlieb Education Microgrant, Powell Elementary will be able to provide clay for their students during the 2025-2206 school year. Each student from every grade level will have the opportunity to make a 3D sculpture out of clay which will then be eligible for submission to the district show and selection for display at the district’s central office.
