Tox Cox Intermediate- Stools for seating in art class

The Stools for Seating in Art Class project provided Art teacher Michelle O'Donnell with two full class sets of stools to create a more functional, studio-style environment in middle school art classrooms. Before, limited seating restricted how the space could be arranged and impacted students’ ability to fully engage in hands-on artmaking. Now with appropriate seating, students will be able to work comfortably at tables during drawing, painting, and mixed media projects. The stools support flexible classroom layouts that encourage both independent work and collaboration, while also improving movement, transitions, and overall classroom efficiency.

Beyond practicality, this project helps establish a more authentic studio atmosphere where students feel a greater sense of ownership of their creative space. Providing equitable access to proper seating ensures that all students can fully participate in a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment. By improving both the physical setup and the student experience, this project will increase engagement, streamline workflow, and strengthen students’ sense of pride in their art classroom.
