As a part of the Mixed Media Spirit Animal Project with Conroe High School, students are enveloped in the art history of animal depictions from pottery and clay sculptures to carved stone and metal sculptures. With this knowledge, each student creates a mixed media artwork that contains aspects of history but also conceptualizes their identity within the piece. This wonderful initiative allows students the creative freedom and resources necessary to turn their visions into reality.
With support from the Dr. David Gottlieb Education Microgrant, the materials and media that are necessary to complete this project are easily accessible to participating students. The funding to cover the entirety of the necessary materials, media, and other resources, will allow participants to focus their productivity and time after school on committing themselves to cultural awareness, embracing their identities, and expressing their emotions in an artistic fashion. These powerful artworks then become displays of the impact of this initiative around the campus and are eligible for entry into the Visual Art Scholastic Event Competition, District Art Show and Local League Art shows with the opportunity to earn art scholarships.
