Call for Artists! Mural in The Woodlands, TX

The Woodlands Arts Council, in partnership with The Woodlands Township and Howard Hughes, invites local artists to apply for the opportunity to create a mural in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of The Woodlands.

Call Type: Public Art
Eligibility: Local Artists in Montgomery County and the portion of The Woodlands located in Harris County
Location: The Woodlands, TX
Entry Deadline: June 24, 2024
Notification: July 15, 2024
Timeframe: September 21 - October 11, 2024
Budget: $10,000 plus supplies up to $1,500
Selection Process: The 50th Anniversary Committee will choose a local artist for the piece based on the mural artwork samples submitted and the ability to meet deadlines and requirements.
Mural Design: Please submit three samples of your prior mural artwork.
Theme: The beauty of The Woodlands, the livable forest 50th Anniversary Mural. This piece will be labeled with the wording "The Woodlands, TX 1974-2024" and The Woodlands 50th Anniversary logo somewhere on the mural.
Location: Behind The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion at 2005 Lake Robbins Dr., The Woodlands, TX 77380,
Mural Size: 8' tall x 24'6" wide, allowing 2' feet at the base for lawn maintenance. Creative liberty will be given if you choose to exceed the 24'6" boundary.
About the location: This mural will be in a public, well-traveled area. The artwork will be created on a semi-circular concrete base, leaving a 2-foot space at the bottom for lawn maintenance. The concrete also has random pitting.
Other information: Submitting artists should have experience designing and painting murals. The artist must provide personal protective equipment, scaffolding, or benches to complete the project safely. Any priming necessary will be up to the individual artist. Upon completion, we ask that the artist apply an anti-graffiti or protective coat to the mural. The mural must last for a minimum of two years. The agreement will include three one-year consecutive renewals.
