Melissa Helene is an award-winning scratchboard artist who specializes in highly detailed black and white wildlife portraits with an emphasis on endangered species. Her high contrast work also incorporates color - the translucent inks are applied over the top of the black and white scratchboard.

Scratchboard is a subtractive medium that utilizes a variety of abrasive tools to layer scratches into the black, India ink layer of the board. Each scratch reveals the white beneath and different values and textures are created by layering scratches.

All her work is one-of-a-kind and hand drawn.
