Be A Fan
I'm largely an encaustic painter w/a strong focus on using recycled materials and found objects. I build the entire piece from substrate to frame. Frames are usually found objects that suggest alternate stories; examples include a medicine cabinet, a bass drum, etc. I incorporate a wide range of ephemera such as navigation charts, maps, photos and old ledgers to help tell different stories as viewers have a recognition of something familiar in a new form. I use locally farmed beeswax in my work and make my own paint from dry pigments I’ve bought on my travels around the world. Every layer is fired with a torch to provide stability and texture. Some pieces have more than a hundred layers. My work is somewhat realistic with a modern/industrial feel due to the recycled materials. Common themes include water, boats and surreal landscapes.
