Anne London

Location(s):
Based on sketches made in the African bush, charcoal and graphite are drawn on gesso coated canvas. Sanded, scored , partially erased, sometimes added to with collaged leaves, thorns, paper and golds leaf, the under layers are painted with oil and cold wax for color. As the cold wax lends a glass like layer, original elements are meant to be seen as artifacts of the original idea. Often from the environment that her models come from in Africa, these artifacts are connected by history and science and are used by the artist to not only tell a story, but to provoke discussion.
