Each year, The Woodlands Arts Council hosts a Student Art Scholarship competition where they provide financial assistance, approximately $21,000 each year, to Students whom are awarded in their category of submission. We ask any active public, private and home-schooled juniors and seniors, who are located in the Montgomery County, Texas area to participate and submit in at least one of the following art categories: painting, drawing, mixed media 2D, mixed media 3D, digital art, and photography.

This Student Art Scholarship opportunity alone receives an average of about 150 submissions.

It’s after this submission process, where each of the students works are judged by a panel of judges; who are carefully selected and consist of activate professors and artists from around the greater Houston area.

To continue keeping the Student Art Scholarships an exciting opportunity, The Woodlands Arts Council has chosen to make a few additions to this year’s competition. This year the student works will be exhibited in a specially-curated exhibition located at Market Street during the duration of March. With the consideration of selected hours of operation, this exhibition will be open to the public, where patrons can feature the student’s creativity, along with their works and artist’s statement. Following this exhibition will be the Student Art Showcase, where the awardees from each category will be announced.

The winners from each category will be featured in the Student Art Scholarship booth at this year’s 2018 Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival, April 7-8, 2018.

Art Feel

Art Feel

March 28, 2018 7P (Wednesday)

Crush Wine Lounge · 20 Waterway Avenue

ARTFEEL is blog on Facebook and the The Woodlands Arts Council website that prompts the community to engage with its vast collection of public art. Every month, ARTFEEL asks residents how a specific piece of public art makes them feel – their ARTFEEL. Local artist Nickole Kerner Bobley shares her feelings to get the conversation going. Then, the last Wednesday of every month at The Crush Wine Lounge we offer-up a stage and mic for Woodlands area residents to attend ARTFEEL LIVE, a one hour show, where storytellers, musicians, dancers and poets offer up creative expression prompted by the artwork in spotlight. The rules are there are no rules and that is the fun. Let’s see what happens when we talk about art!

Next up for March we’ll be spotlighting the “Bean” art bench by Valerie Theberge. You must LIKE and FOLLOW The Woodlands Arts Council on Facebook to engage with ARTFEEL.
