My work is a combination of slab-constructed, rigid forms with organic, curvy wheel-thrown forms. Design inspiration for my pieces can come from a variety of places, from old furniture feet to building spires. The consistent theme in my pieces is woodland life. My goal is to create pottery that communicates an organic energy, whether that be through nature motifs, textures, or coloration of my pieces. The surfaces of my pieces employ both the natural beauty and finish of fired clay and earth-toned glazes that reflect the natural beauty of Earth. I enjoy hand-carving imagery in the sides of my vessels as well as cutting all the way through my walls to create luminary effects. I like to place lights inside my pieces and see how the shapes of my cutouts can explode all around the piece extending my art further.
