BLACKBIRD AND THE SNOW fine jewelry
is an ode to the natural world; the pieces express a connection to the wilderness and a desire to immortalize elements -birds, insects, wings, stars, moons - that serve as the living, elemental poetry of our world. Having apprenticed under a jewelry master for 8 years while living in London, I learned pre-industrial techniques including fine milgrain, hand engraving, intaglio, lapidary work, gypsy star-cuts and hand fabrication. While my fine jewelry is influenced by the study of old world, European techniques, I strive to create work that is singularly American in its innovative approach. My most recent work uses ethically sourced butterfly wings that I press between sapphire slices. I created this technique with a vision towards elevating the humble, exquisite butterfly wing into the realm of fine jewelry. By framing the wings in gold and exploring color play with precious/semi-precious stones, a new and otherworldly aesthetic comes into focus.
