Location(s):
The ceramic works that I create are built entirely by hand. I use mid to high fire clay. The three steps are as follows; first, the material is in a plastic state, meaning it is malleable. The second stage is named leather hard in which the clay is no longer malleable, however, it is a perfect state to carve. The final stage is bone dry, meaning the clay is depleted of moisture and ready for the first firing which is bisque firing.
After the bisque firing, I glaze each piece with a specifically designed glaze that "fits" the body of the clay.
My work is a reflection of my childhood growing up in New Mexico, the mountains, Navajo, and Hopi design heavily influence my wheel-thrown pieces and color processes.
